President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he would be deploying the National Guard to Memphis, Tenn., next as he continues his anti-crime initiative. 

The president made the announcement during an appearance on "Fox & Friends," adding that the deployment would not be limited to the National Guard and could include the Army if needed.

"Memphis is deeply troubled," Trump said. "We're gonna fix that just like we did Washington."

Three months ago, deadly storms leveled parts of West Tennessee, including parts of Selmer.  The town is recovering and rebuilding.  Thursday, President Trump signed a new law championed by Tennessee Congressman David Kustoff, the Filing Relief for Natural Disasters Act.

This legislation aims to provide tax relief for individuals affected by natural disasters, ensuring that victims have flexibility regarding tax deadlines.

Senator Marsha Blackburn and Congressman David Kustoff are sponsoring a bill that, if passed, will require 15-year mandatory sentences on those individuals who have three or more serious felonies and are subsequently found guilty of illegal firearm possession.  The legislation has been christened the “Restoring the Armed Career Criminal Act” and reconfigures a “three strikes” law passed in 1984.  That same act saw parts of it struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2015.
