December 3, 2025

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The U.S. House of Representatives has passed Republican Tennessee Congressman David Kustoff’s bill H.R. 5345, the “Improving Social Security’s Service to Victims of Identity Theft Act,” with a unanimous vote Tuesday.

The legislation creates a single point of contact at the Social Security Administration for individuals whose Social Security numbers have been stolen.

Kustoff released a statement following the bill’s passage saying:

“Victims of identity theft shouldn’t have to fight their way through government bureaucracy just to get their identity restored.”

“The Improving Social Security’s Service to Victims of Identity Theft Act is a commonsense bill that will improve government efficiency and ensure victims get access to timely relief.”

The bill was introduced on September 15.
