Senators Bill Hagerty (TN) and Catherine Cortez Masto (NV) introduced the companion bill in the Senate.

This legislation updates federal statute to give prosecutors the tools they need to charge criminal carjackers and get them off our streets.

WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman David Kustoff (TN-08) and Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) introduced the bipartisan Deter Obnoxious, Nefarious, and Outrageous Telephone Calls (DO NOT Call) Act. This legislation is aimed at cracking down on unsolicited robocalls by increasing penalties for bad actors who harass and defraud consumers. Nevada Senator Cortez Masto introduced the Senate companion version of this bill.

WASHINGTON – Today, the House of Representatives passed Congressman David Kustoff’s bill, the Improving Social Security’s Service to Victims of Identity Theft Act (H.R. 5345), by unanimous consent. This legislation creates a single point of contact at the Social Security Administration (SSA) for individuals whose Social Security numbers have been stolen.

The FCC’s action was applauded by Congressman David Kustoff (R-TN), a longtime proponent of the technology who led several colleagues in submitting a letter yesterday that encouraged the vote.

By passing out of committee, H.R. 5345 can be considered for a vote by the full House of Representatives. The bill passed committee by a vote of 39-1.
