Rep. Kustoff Votes to Bolster the Military, Build the Wall and Fight the Opioid Crisis

March 22, 2018

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative David Kustoff (TN-08) today released the following statement on funding the government for the remainder of the fiscal year.

"Today, I voted to fully support our troops and put a stop to the cycle of short term spending bills that are hurting our men and women in uniform," said Congressman Kustoff. "This legislation will provide the largest pay raise for our service members in nearly a decade, increase troop levels and substantially upgrade our military capabilities.

"We worked with President Trump to provide $1.57 billion for the border wall and bolstered border security, upholding our commitment to protect the American people.

"As the opioid epidemic continues to hurt our families and communities, we have made the largest federal commitment ever to fight the spread of these drugs.

"This pro-life bill also upholds the Hyde Amendment to block taxpayer dollars from funding abortions, and not one dime is earmarked to Planned Parenthood.

"We secured major wins to deliver broadband and improved infrastructure to our underserved rural communities.

"Also included is the critical "grain fix" to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act so that our farmers are benefiting from tax reform on a level playing field.

"The House succeeded in passing individual appropriations bills, and I am disappointed that the Senate failed to do the same. We must reform our broken budget process, but this legislation accomplishes important priorities and makes us stronger at home and abroad."
