Rep. Kustoff Statement on Passing of Lewis Donelson III
Memphis, Tennessee – U.S. Representative David Kustoff (TN-08) today released the following statement on the passing of Lewis Donelson III, cofounder of the Memphis-based Baker Donelson law firm and a founder of the modern Tennessee Republican Party.
“Lewis Donelson was one of the finest Memphians I have ever known,” said Congressman Kustoff. “A true statesman and a titan in the legal community, Lewie spent a century working to better the state of Tennessee. Lewie practiced law for nearly 70 years and is widely regarded as one of the founding fathers of the modern Tennessee Republican Party. In 1968, he helped establish the very first Memphis City Council at the height of the Civil Rights Movement and led the charge for peaceful integration and racial equality. I will always admire Lewie’s remarkable public service and will look back fondly on our memories together. Roberta and I send our deepest sympathies to the Donelson family.”
