Kustoff Votes Against Democrat’s Partisan Measures to Undermine President Trump’s Right to Defend Our Nation

January 30, 2020

WASHINGTON, DC— Today, U.S. Representative David Kustoff (TN-08), voted against two measures that would support Iran and endanger our troops. These bills would repeal the 2002 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF), which authorizes the President to defend our country against the continuing threat posed by terrorist countries in the Middle East, as well as undermine the President's authority and put our national security at risk.

"The President, as Commander in Chief, rightfully countered Iran's hostility with decisive action, and it is vital that he maintains full authority and congressional support to defend our national interest," said Rep. Kustoff. "Iran has been a leading state sponsor of terror and our President's hands should not be tied when it comes to defending our nation against this regime. These amendments put American's safety at risk and undermine President Trump's constitutional authority."
