Kustoff Secures Wins for West Tennessee

December 17, 2019

Includes an increase in Asian Carp funding, pay raises and support for our military, Rural Broadband Expansion

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Today, Congressman David Kustoff (TN-08) voted for H.R. 1158 and H.R. 1856. These two bills make up the 2020 Fiscal Year Appropriations Package and will fund our government until September 30, 2020. Included in this funding bill is $738 billion in tools for our military to defend our nation, a 3.1 percent pay raise for our service men and women-the largest pay raise in a decade, $25 million towards the elimination of Asian Carp, $1.375 billion in new border wall funding, $518 million to combat the opioid abuse, and an additional $642 million for rural broadband. This appropriations bill was negotiated by both the Senate and House and passed by a bipartisan vote.

"This legislation prioritizes our national security by providing new funding to continue to rebuild our military after years of neglect, and it puts our troops and their families first by giving them the largest pay raise in a decade. Additionally, it provides significant funding to ensure President Trump can continue to build the border wall," said Rep. David Kustoff. "This bill also contains many West Tennessee priorities that I've fought for such as $25 million to eradicate Asian Carp, increased development of rural broadband, and continued funding to combat the devastating opioid epidemic. I would like to thank Senator Alexander for working with me to ensure these important programs were included in this package and I was proud to vote Yes on these bills."
