Kustoff Joins Colleagues in Requesting Help for Cotton Farmers

July 18, 2017

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative David Kustoff (TN-08) today joined a bipartisan coalition of 109 members, led by House Agriculture Committee Chairman K. Michael Conaway (R-TX), in a letter requesting President Trump to advance assistance for the cotton industry by operating the Cotton Ginning Cost Share Program on an ongoing basis beginning with the 2016 crop year.

"For far too long, cotton farmers in West Tennessee have suffered unstable economic conditions and falling crop prices," said Kustoff. "This has been exacerbated by foreign subsidies that have created an unfair playing field in the global cotton market. With more cotton operations than any other area of Tennessee, the Eighth Congressional District's farmers need a strong safety net, like the cost share program, to remain competitive in this evolving economy. I applaud Chairman Conaway's leadership and urge the Administration to quickly bring relief to one of the most important sectors of our agriculture community."
