Kustoff Introduces Legislation with Sens. Cruz, Graham, and Rep. Cheney to Reverse Iran Civil-Nuclear Waivers Established Under Obama Nuclear Deal

November 15, 2019

WASHINGTON, DC—Today, Congressman David Kustoff (TN-08), joined Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), and Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), to introduce legislation that would dismantle a key remaining part of the Iran Nuclear Deal. This legislation revokes waivers for civil nuclear projects with Iran that were established under President Obama's nuclear deal.

"The Iran Nuclear Deal is deeply flawed and this bill is one step closer to fully eliminating it. The waivers established under Obama's nuclear deal legitimize Iran's illicit nuclear infrastructure, and this bill works to fully revoke them. It is essential we ensure Iran is not paving a pathway to becoming nuclear and obtaining nuclear weapons. I look forward to Congress taking up this legislation and finally holding Iran accountable," said Rep. Kustoff.

Background on waivers:

  • Sustain President Obama's disastrous nuclear deal
  • Allow Iran to build up its nuclear program
  • Legitimize Iran's illicit nuclear infrastructure
  • Endorse Iran's false narrative about its nuclear program
  • Turn a blind eye to Iran's nuclear escalations
  • Undermine the President's maximum pressure campaign
