Kustoff, Hinson Introduce Legislation to Protect Farmers from Chinese Influence
WASHINGTON, D.C — Congressman David Kustoff (R-TN) recently joined Congresswomen Ashley Hinson (R-IA) and Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) to introduce the bipartisan, Securing American Agriculture Act, in the House of Representatives. This legislation will protect the American food and agriculture supply chain from the growing influence of the Chinese Communist Party.
"Farmers play a crucial role in West Tennessee's economy. They produce the food, fuel, and fiber used around the world," said Congressman Kustoff. "It is imperative we protect our farmers from China's growing influence over the supply chain. I am pleased to help introduce this legislation that will strengthen our agricultural supply chain, combat China, and ensure farmers have the resources they need to keep up production."
H.R. 8003, the Securing American Agriculture Act, directs the Secretary of Agriculture to conduct an annual assessment evaluating agricultural input supply chains that could be exploited by China. It also directs the Secretary to provide recommendations to mitigate potential threats that could significantly affect domestic production of agriculture.
