Kustoff Co-Sponsors Legislation Making Rural Hospitals Eligible for the Paycheck Protection Program

June 16, 2020

WASHINGON, DC – Today, Rep. David Kustoff (TN-08), signed on as a co-sponsor to the PPP Access for Rural Hospitals Act. This bill would allow smaller hospitals that are part of a larger health system to waive affiliation requirements to be eligible for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). Currently, small, rural hospitals that are part of a larger health system are not eligible for the Paycheck Protection Program if the health system has more than 500 employees across all of its facilities. The language is narrowly tailored to ensure rural hospitals or those in most need are able to participate in the program.

"Rural hospitals in West Tennessee provide critical services to the surrounding communities. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, these rural hospitals have experienced tremendous financial burdens due to interruptions in their normal operations. This bill will provide much-needed payroll assistance to our rural hospitals, ensuring they are able to continue their critical services and serve their local community," said Rep. David Kustoff
