Congressman Kustoff Announces Congressional App Challenge Winner

December 5, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Congressman David Kustoff (TN-08) announced the 2022 Congressional App Challenge winner for Tennessee's 8th Congressional District is Blake Freeman from Shelby County. Blake created the app, DeskHealth, as a Google Chrome extension designed to enforce healthy computer habits such as periodic breaks and staying hydrated.

"Congratulations to Blake for winning this year's Congressional App Challenge," said Congressman Kustoff. "I am always impressed to see West Tennessee's next generation aspire to a career in computer science and find creative ways to benefit our community. Thank you to all the students who submitted an app this year. Your innovation plays an important role in moving our country further into the 21st century."

The Congressional App Challenge began in 2014 as an effort to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), and to encourage students to learn coding and computer science skills. Students in participating congressional districts compete against their peers by creating original software applications ("apps"). Winning apps are featured on the U.S. House of Representatives' website, the Congressional App Challenge website, and are displayed in a U.S. Capitol Building exhibit.
