West TN Representative David Kustoff shares his thoughts on the current Government Shutdown
As the government shutdown enters its twenty-third day federal workers wonder just how long it will go on and if some of them should still come to work if they won’t receive pay.
We reached out to U. S. Congressman David Kustoff who represents Tennessee's 8th District.
“We have seen how it started to affect our constituents in West Tennessee when they reach out to us for certain services. And right now, all the action, if you will, is in the United States Senate because they have been voting, they voted now twelve times to keep the government open or from the Democrats' perspective to keep it closed," said David Kustoff U.S. Representative Tennessee's 8th Congressional District.
Representative Kustoff believes voters can help end the shutdown.
“I think it's gonna take enough people. People in West Tennessee, people across the nation. Going to these Democratic senators and going to the Democratic congressman and say. Look, we know there are other issues, you wanna debate. The first thing is we need the government reopened. We need our constituent services restored. We need our federal employees to be paid," Representative Kustoff said.
Thirty-nine news also asked the Congressman about air traffic safety with controllers and TSA agents not getting paid.
“If the air traffic system. is compromised because we don't have enough TSA agents. We don't have enough air traffic controllers. People across the nation are gonna feel the pinch. And I go back to these Democrat lawmakers and say, how in the world do you justify shutting down the government when so many essential services like air travel are affected? It is not logical for the Democrats to vote to shut down the government," he said.
With no end in sight for the shutdown, only time will tell what fate federal workers everywhere will face this fall.
