Toyota invests $71.4 million in Jackson plant for hybrid vehicle production, 33 new jobs

November 19, 2025

With an investment from Toyota totaling $71.4 million and creating 33 new jobs at its Jackson plant, three new production lines will be added to increase production of hybrid vehicles.

Announced on Nov. 18 in an effort to meet the increasing demand for hybrid vehicles, the new production lines will manufacture hybrid transaxle cases and housing and engine blocks for Toyota's Hybrid RAV4, Hybrid Highlander, and Lexus TX vehicles.

With the added production lines, Toyota Tennessee Plant Manager Scott Hastings says the facility's output will increase by 500,000 units annually. Production is poised to begin in 2027 and 2028.

"For our customers, they're showing the desire for hybrid vehicles," Hastings said. "So Toyota in that response is obviously listening to that so that's the expansion we have here now, is to expand our hybrid production."

In 2024, the Jackson plant produced three million units of engine blocks, automatic transmission cases, and housings.

Production at Toyota Tennessee started in 2005, and Hastings says this expansion is among the largest the plant has seen in recent years.

The Jackson plant resides in the Eighth Congressional District, represented by Congressman David Kustoff, who both congratulated Madison County on the facility's growth and thanked Toyota for its investment.

“Toyota’s expansion of its Jackson, TN facility demonstrates the company’s commitment to West Tennessee," Kustoff said.

"This investment will add quality jobs, reinforcing Toyota’s ongoing role as a major employer in our community. West Tennessee continues to be an attractive place to live, work, and raise a family thanks to our leadership at the local, state, and federal levels."

"We’re grateful for Toyota’s ongoing partnership and investment in Jackson," Scott Conger, City of Jackson Mayor, said.

"This expansion reinforces our city’s position as a hub for innovation and skilled talent, and it’s another example of how global companies continue to grow right here in Jackson. We’re proud to see this investment create new opportunities and strengthen the foundation for Jackson’s continued growth and success.”

Toyota's 450,000 square foot plant in Jackson currently employs 465 team members, and Hastings shared that the recent investment will continue fostering a strong workforce.

The 33 jobs will be throughout various sectors, including in the production, maintenance and quality control departments.

"I think it's going to continue to boost the economy and Toyota is an employer for Madison County," Hastings said.

"We attract team members not only from Madison County but for other surrounding counties. This will just increase that capability for finding these 33 new jobs for team members to have stable employment with competitive pay and benefits."

Madison County Mayor AJ Massey echoed this sentiment, describing this investment as strengthening the local workforce.

"Toyota’s continued investment in Jackson-Madison County is a clear testament to the strength of our workforce and our community’s commitment to supporting advanced manufacturing," Massey said. "We’re proud to see this facility play an important role in Toyota’s hybrid future — one that brings more quality jobs, innovation and opportunity to West Tennessee.”

Toyota West Virginia saw a $453 million investment with 80 jobs, Toyota Kentucky received $204.4 million with 82 jobs, $125 million was invested in Toyota Mississippi, and Toyota Missouri will add 57 jobs with its $57.1 million investment.
